Audible Convergence for Optimal Base Melody Extension with Statistical Genre-Specific Interval Distance Evaluation

چکیده

In this paper, an evolutionary algorithm is used to calculate optimal extensions of a base melody line by statistical interval-distance minimization. Applying an evolutionary algorithm for solving such an optimization problem reveals the effect of audible convergence, when iterations of the optimization process, which represent sub-optimal melody lines, are combined to a musical piece. An example is provided to evaluate the algorithm, and to point out differences of the final score, when different musical genres, represented by different interval distance classification schemes, are applied.

MIREX 2005: Symbolic Genre classification with an ensemble of parametric and lazy classifiers

The symbolic genre classification algorithm submited to the MIREX (Music Information Retrieval Exchange) 2005 is described here. Our algorithm uses a combination of k-nearest neighbors and Bayesian classifiers trained with different sets of statistical descriptors extracted from melody tracks extracted from MIDI files. It is aimed at classifying melodies by genre. The statistical descriptors de...

Developing Self-adaptive Melody Search Algorithm for Optimal Operation of Multi-reservoir Systems

Operation of multi-reservoir systems is known as complicated and often large-scale optimization problems. The problems, because of broad search space, nonlinear relationships, correlation of several variables, as well as problem uncertainty, are difficult requiring powerful algorithms with specific capabilities to be solved. In the present study a Self-adaptive version of Melody Search algorith...

A note on "An interval type-2 fuzzy extension of the TOPSIS method using alpha cuts"

The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is a method based on the ideal solutions in which the most desirable alternative should have the shortest distance from positive ideal solution and the longest distance from negative ideal solution. Depending on type of evaluations or method of ranking, different approaches have been proposing to calculate distances ...

The Convergence of Perceived Prosodic Highlight for Discourse Prosody - A cross-speech genre analysis

Drawing on a parallel mechanism of motivic similarity in melody perception of music study, this research explores the convergence of perceived prosodic highlight allocations from lower-level prosodic units in reflecting higher-level discourse prosody. Based on the assumption that discourse prosody in cross-genre Mandarin speech corresponds to a coarsely graded distinction of prosodic contrastiv...

Genre Classification based on Predominant Melodic Pitch Contours

We present an automatic genre classification system based on melodic features. First a ground truth genre dataset composed of polyphonic music excerpts is compiled. Predominant melodic pitch contours are then estimated, from which a series of descriptors is extracted. These features are related to melody pitch, variation and expressiveness (e.g. vibrato characteristics, pitch distributions, con...
